New Digital Nomad Tax Exemptions in Spain’s Coastal Regions for 2026

Spain Introduces New Tax Incentives

The Spanish Government has officially announced the introduction of unprecedented tax exemptions for digital nomads who choose to settle in the country’s coastal regions starting in 2026. This initiative aims to decentralize foreign talent and stimulate the economy in areas outside major metropolitan hubs like Madrid and Barcelona. Under the new law, professionals working remotely will be eligible for significant income tax discounts.

Specifically, the tax rate for these residents will be reduced to 15% for the first five years of residency, provided they purchase property or sign a long-term lease agreement in regions such as the Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol, and Costa Brava. In addition, local municipalities are offering extra subsidies for setting up workspaces and connecting to high-speed internet.

Real estate market experts are already noting increased interest from foreign buyers in coastal properties. It is expected that these measures will not only boost housing demand but also lead to infrastructure development in these regions. However, the government emphasizes that to receive the benefits, strict adherence to the new tax residency criteria is required.

  • Rate reduction to 15%
  • Mandatory residency in coastal areas
  • Minimum contract duration — 2 years
